Environmental Management Consultants Inc. (EMC) is one of Guyana’s premier environmental service providers and has been in operation for over 15 years, working in Guyana and the Caribbean. EMC has provided support to over 100 clients which include Governments, Multilateral Financial Institutions, NGOs and the Private Sector.

EMC’s work covers many sectors and focus areas including agriculture, renewable energy, oil and gas, forestry, infrastructure, mining, tourism, health, fisheries, manufacturing, housing, and biodiversity protection and management, climate change, green growth and low carbon development.

The principal services EMC offers are:

  • Green Growth and Support for Multilateral Environmental Agreements EMC is a strong advocate for green growth and low carbon development and many EMC team members have been involved in national and international initiatives on sustainable development, climate change, and forest climate services and avoided deforestation (REDD+). EMC has supported Guyana and other Caribbean countries to meet obligations to Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) and in particular the Rio Conventions on Climate Change, Biodiversity and Combatting Desertification. EMC’s involvement include supporting national strategy development, national reporting to the Conventions and technical studies and assessments.
  • Environmental and Social Impact Assessments
    Environmental Management Consultants conducts Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) for projects across a range of sectors. The requirements for ESIAs are driven by environmental and social safeguards of public and multi-national companies, donor organisations, or to comply with national requirements for environmental authorization. EMC has worked on over 25 ESIAs in Guyana.
  • Biodiversity Assessment, Monitoring and Management Planning
    EMC conducts biodiversity assessments and monitoring and prepares Biodiversity Management Plans for clients utilizing its team of national and international biodiversity experts. These are done to ensure that projects activities do not negatively affect the biodiversity of an area, especially as it relates to endangered, rare and threatened species. EMC also supports species and ecosystem monitoring and management across a range of ecosystems including the marine and coastal areas, wetlands, and forests.
  • Environmental and Social Management Plans
    EMC prepares Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs) as part of the environmental authorization of projects and to meet environmental and social safeguard requirements of donors and lending agencies. EMC has prepared over 75 ESMPs.
  • Environmental Compliance Monitoring, Auditing and Reporting
    EMC assists clients to ensure and enhance their environmental and regulatory compliance by conducting environmental compliance monitoring, audits and reporting. EMC also assists clients in the preparation of Environmental Reports including Monthly, Quarterly, Bi-Annual and Annual Reports.
